Soon to Be Southbound: A Very Quick Update
Things have been busy aboard Osprey lately, and we wanted to share a quick update for those curious about our upcoming journey southward.
Michael and I have been in Deltaville for about a week and a half, working through a few projects that are easier to tackle at our home marina. Here, we have access to our car and plenty of hardware and marine stores close by.

We also took a short land break this past weekend to celebrate a friend’s wedding in Richmond — a lovely pause before we get underway again.

It’s starting to get chilly here in Virginia, so it’s high time to begin our voyage south. It looks like we’ll have good weather and wind for sailing either Wednesday or Friday, making a one-day hop to Norfolk. Our goal over the next 48 hours is to provision, do laundry, clean the boat, and wrap up a few final projects.
In Norfolk, we’ll stage for our first official day on the Intracoastal Waterway. Day 1 on the ICW will take us through the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal to Coinjock, North Carolina. The route includes several drawbridges and locks, so it should be quite an adventure!
From this point forward, we have no calendar commitments — our travel will be guided by the weather and the mood of the crew. Forecasting beyond the coming weekend is unreliable, so whether we linger in Coinjock or continue southbound down the ICW is still to be determined.
Our southward journey on the ICW will take us to Florida, with a likely arrival by mid-December. We plan to take our time getting there, enjoying the coastal towns of the Carolinas and Georgia.

For inquiring minds: Wednesday departure is now off the table. The seastate is still going to be too rough from the Nor-easter that is coming through today. Fingers crossed Friday is a good day.
Looks like you’ll go along the inland side of the Outer Banks on Currituck Sound and Albemarle Sound.
